Besides the Gaussian Blur effect, you'll find a long list of options for effect strips in Blender. The procedure to add and edit each one of them is similar to what we already did with the Gaussian Blur. However, some of the effects will require you to select two strips instead of one.
The reason for this is the fact that some effects will depend on multiple selections. For instance, with the Cross effect, you can create a visual transition called crossfade (Figure 4.8):
