Chances are that even though your enterprise administrator can banish you from downloading third-party applications, he or she probably won't block them completely. (See Book VIII, Chapter 2 to see more about how enterprise admins might prevent you from accessing third-party apps.) That's because apps give employees like you exactly what you need — added functionality that helps you do your job efficiently, saving the company both time and money. However, it's very likely that your IT administrator controls which third party applications you can install. In short, the benefits of each third-party app are weighed against the security risk, as well as the added maintenance. Those are the factors that your administrator is probably weighing when deciding whether to allow an app into the enterprise environment.

Your IT department will probably create a whitelist— a list of acceptable third-party apps. It might even create a blacklist You can probably guess which kinds of apps go on that list— the ones that are untested, are a security risk, or present a maintenance nightmare.
