Now it’s time to increase the difficulty of your negotiating experience by going to a flea market in your area. Every city and town has a place on the weekends where people sell their unwanted items.

The difference between a garage sale and a flea market is that most of the vendors at the market are pretty experienced negotiators, since many of them sell items at these events for a living. Use all of the same skills you used at the garage sales, and start bargaining. Then ask yourself these questions:

  1. Did I create time pressure for the other party?

  2. Did I notice who was under the most time pressure?

  3. Did I test the deadline to see if it was real?

  4. Was my mind laser-focused throughout the process?

  5. Did I keep my ego out of the negotiations? ...
