Make Sure Your Needs Are Met

The main goal at this stage of the contest is to be sure your needs are met. If not, you might as well walk away now and save everyone a lot of wasted time. As we’ve seen, needs are pretty straightforward. They are the bare minimum you must get in order to be satisfied with the deal.

If you are buying a new desktop computer, you might need a 17-inch monitor, Windows Vista software, and a 250-gigabyte hard drive for under $500. It would be nice to have a 19-inch monitor, a scanner, and a printer within your budget, but that depends on your negotiating skills. However, if a computer doesn’t meet your minimum needs, you won’t even bother looking at it.
