4. Learning the Rules of Power

You can learn to find and generate power from sources you would never have expected.

In martial arts there are basic rules about how to develop and use power, and black belts know those rules. Masters live and breathe the rules, all of which are based on scientific principles.

The technical definition of power is “mass multiplied by velocity squared.” This means that you can generate the same power if you have less mass by hitting faster. The best martial artist at this skill was Bruce Lee, who, at 5 feet, 7 inches tall and just 140 pounds, was no heavyweight, yet he was able to defeat much larger opponents because he was so fast and so focused.
