What is Negotiating Really About?

Webster’s dictionary defines negotiating as follows: “to confer with another so as to arrive at the settlement of some matter.” So what is all the fear about? It is nothing more than talking with another person to come to an agreement that is not only beneficial but satisfactory and fair to both sides. It doesn’t mean taking advantage of people or forcing them to do something they don’t want to do. You don’t need to threaten or coerce. You don’t have to lie or cheat. You can and should form an honorable and honest relationship with your opponent so both of you can get your needs met.
