X-axis: In a graph or oscilloscope, the horizontal axis of the display.

X-band:The region of the electromagnetic spectrum near 8 GHz and used predominantly for satellite (2) communications. See Appendix N.

xenon lamp: A light source with a compact electrical arc discharge within a quartz envelope containing xenon gas at high pressure. They are widely used in motion picture film projectors.

xerography: A method of producing images by charge patterns on a drum. Particles of dielectric powder (toner) are attracted to the charged surface and transferred onto paper or plastic. They are then fixed on by heat. The system is used in photocopiers and laser printers.
