Other XML Schema Languages

Here is a short list of some other popular languages (including DTD, XDR, and XML Schema).

  • W3C XML Schema— A W3C language specification, the XML Schema language is designed to express shared vocabularies and allow machines to carry out rules made by people. They provide a means for defining the structure, content, and semantics of XML documents. XML Schema has an advantage over previous forms of validation—for example, DTD—because of added extensibility (built on the XML syntax), namespaces, and data type functionality.
