Abstract

Recent developments about the attractive properties of nanoparticles increase interest about their applicability in biosensing areas resulting in great progress in the development of nanomaterial-based biosensors. The usage of metal nanoparticle superstructures for the organization of electrochemical sensing devices is an extremely promising prospect. Gold nanoparticle (AuNP) is a kind of metal nanoparticle which can help proteins retain their biological activity upon adsorption. Because of its large surface area and good electronic properties, AuNP has been extensively used in the construction of electrochemical sensors and biosensors. The aim of this chapter is to give detailed information about AuNP-based electrochemical biosensors and their usage in medical application. For this purpose, first of all the preparation of AuNP was given. Then AuNP modified electrodes were examined and usage of these electrodes as biosensor transducers for medical applications were discussed.
