THIS CHAPTER is focused not on e-learning's technology, but on what this new approach to organizational learning is (and what it Is not). Transfer of e-learning to performance is greatly enhanced by the workplace setting, and the support of online communities of practice. Electronically networked learning's ease of updating and distributing ever-changing content yields tremendous support for timely transfer of vital skills in the workplace. We explore what e-learning is, its stare of the art, and its enablers and disables. Finally, we look at what stakeholders can do to support the transfer of e-learning to performance.
