Appendix 2 Densitometer Design and Construction

If you own a spotmeter, you can adapt it quite inexpensively to serve as a densitometer that can read both transmission and reflection densities. There are only three critical features or adjustments to be observed in designing and building the necessary adapter unit.

First, the focal distance of the close-up lens must be carefully adjusted to provide the sharpest possible visual image in the meter finder. You can determine the approximate spacing by holding the close-up lens over the spotmeter lens and measuring the lens-to-target distance that gives the best image quality.
