Inline Elements (Syntactic)
The inline elements can also provide a way to further label your
information to help with styling, search, and retrieval. Inline elements
can be purely formatting and typographic, such as bold, underline, italic,
and so on. You can also create more specific labels, such as elements, to
help identify user interface buttons or keywords. Inline elements provide
support for semantic functionality but do not necessarily provide a
structural purpose. Inline elements include uicontrol
, screen
, bold
,
and so on. Using specific labels allows you to easily search your
information for the content. You can also style them using styles other
than bold, italic, or underline because they are not tied to a specific
typographic style.
Inline elements also tend to have more complex definitions because you can use them in multiple locations.
Each inline element may include other inline XML elements and some body XML elements. However, an inline element cannot contain an information type and usually does not contain a content unit.
