Chapter 5

“What If?” A Report on the Ideal

A number of pioneering organizations have taken significant steps toward managing diversity, but no one company has moved to the point where managing diversity is a full reality. We cannot point to any one corporation as a model for complete implementation of managing diversity. Still, the questions persist: “How do I do it? How do I move from theory to concrete reality?”

This chapter illustrates how the model presented in Chapter 4 might play itself out operationally. In a composite case history based on several real situations, we will watch a hypothetical company as it institutes a managing diversity process over a period of five years.
