Chapter 6Understanding Image Formats

Today’s digital cameras have the ability to take pictures and store them on memory cards, and later on computers, in various image formats. There are three formats available in some cameras and only two in others. Additionally, there are often various levels of image compression—squeezing the image into a smaller size—within the formats, which saves space.
