L.L. Bean was founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean as a one-man direct mail operation. Last year, the company made a billion dollars in sales, shipping more than 12 million packages around the world. L.L. Bean has a very strong business in Japan through direct mail and more than nine retail outlets.
