How Long Are Your Iterations?

In general, we recommend iterations that are no longer than 2 weeks as a starting point. There are many benefits from adopting such short iterations, including how well they help teams break typical, waterfall habits. Many of the other benefits are covered throughout the book.

One of the engineers on an IBM team I worked with sent me an email discussing some of his efforts to encourage shorter iterations. I really like the thinking behind a list of indicators he came up with that point out situations in which teams have adopted iterations that are too long:1
