In this chapter, you learned that:

• Web content management, or WCM, gives control over editing and displaying content. This is especially necessary when working with web sites used by many people, such as intranet, extranet, and public Internet sites.

• WCM is only available in MOSS 2007, not WSS 3.0

• The management process is divided into: Create, Update, Publish, Archive, and Retire content.

• Roles used in content managements are: Content Author, Editor, Publisher, Administrator, Consumer.

• Important content management features in MOSS 2007: support for Metadata, Version History, Check Out/Check In, Approval, Workflows, Localizations, and Policies.

• The previous product MS Content Management Server is now integrated into MOSS 2007.

• MOSS web pages that support content management display a number of buttons and menus for editing a page.

• Another name for MOSS pages with CM support is Publishing Pages.

• All Publishing Pages are stored in a document library, usually named Pages.

• The layout of a Publishing Page is controlled by a page layout file.

• Page layout files are stored in the Master Page Gallery, which is a library shared for the site collection.

• The Master Page Gallery also contains layout files for the Master Page, that is, the look and feel of navigation, top menus, and the logotype.

• The primary tool for editing layout files is the MS Office SharePoint Designer.
