Introduction

A number of books have been written about getting started with Ruby on Rails. We've read a lot of them and found a few to be quite helpful. But what we've found to be lacking is a resource that, although tailored to the complete beginner, still imparts enough of the Rails culture and philosophy to be a useful building block. Rails is a large topic, and too many books are spread sufficiently thin that they're rendered ineffective at conveying the core functionality of Rails. This book is different.
