A sequel to the arcade classic Defender, Stargate is worthy of “hall of fame” status in its own right. Released in 1981 by Williams, Stargate is a horizontally scrolling space shooter similar to Defender, but even more challenging. Some of the main enemies in Stargate are named after competitors of Williams: Yllabian (Bally) and Irata (Atari).
