Chapter 8. Cameras and Models in Direct3D

The topic of cameras in 3D scenes is often overlooked. The camera is a very important actor in the game scene, and the cameras seen in today’s games are often fairly complex. Cameras are critical because if the camera is frustrating or bad in any way, the gamer can have a negative opinion of the experience.

In this chapter we will look at two topics briefly. The first is the creation of two different types of cameras, and the second will show us how to load 3D models from a file.

In this chapter you will learn:

  • How to create a look-at camera

  • How to create an arc rotation camera

  • How to load models in OBJ format
