Typographic characters have many aspects and attributes. It can be helpful to be acquainted with the many names. It’s very helpful to be aware that these many traits and parts exist in learning to specify and identify typefaces.

A character’s point size has little to do with the size of the character itself. Point size is instead the height of the invisible bounding box containing it. A 24-point box is said to hold a 24-point character, though the character can be any size that fits in the box.
