Abstract

This chapter addresses the importance of developing and utilizing networks to find out about and obtain job opportunities in international humanitarian aid work. It begins with practical suggestions for starting your humanitarian network, including reaching out to existing networks, using social media, and seizing opportunities to meet practitioners. It provides key tips for humanitarian networking including how to reach out effectively to people and how to maintain your network. The chapter includes a brief discussion about the importance of mentors. The chapter concludes with an exercise intended to help the reader begin to build their network.
