Creating Conflict Competent Organizations

Building personal conflict competence is an important step for a leader, but it is not the only one. In order to enjoy the full benefits that come from handling conflict effectively, leaders also champion the development of conflict competence throughout their organizations. In this chapter, we review the changes that leaders must make to ensure that their organization becomes conflict competent. Some of the changes deal with structures and processes. Others require the proper alignment of corporate culture and incentives to support the types of behavioral changes needed for success.
