Self-Evaluation Questionnaire: Should I Turn Professional?

Many people who are passionate about photography as a hobby come to a point at which they consider turning their hobby into a business. Some wonder if the time is right for them, if they have what it takes, if they will enjoy it, or if they will even make any money at it.

There is a vast, cavernous, gargantuan, enormous (Grand-Canyon-like!) difference between doing something for fun, for which no money changes hands, and doing something as a full-fledged business. So, how do you decide if “going pro” is a good decision for you? Here’s a little 12-point self-evaluation questionnaire to help you decide:

1. Do You Have an Absolute, Overwhelming Love and Passion for Animals?

If your answer is no, stop right here. Pet owners can smell insincerity from a mile away; it’s an intuitive trait picked up from our animal brethren. If you aren’t absolutely passionate about animals, it will show in your work and ultimately in your photos. Love of animals shines through in pet photography, so if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

2. Do you enjoy working with people?
