When World War II ended in 1945, Major League Baseball was still segregated along racial lines. Professional baseball players of African American descent played in a separate league from white players. In 1947, Branch Rickey, general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, made a bold move to change that fact. Rickey brought Jackie Robinson to the Dodgers, and Robinson became the first African American to play on a Major League Baseball team.
