And finally … remember interviewees are your guests. The way they are treated will determine their attitude towards you and your organisation, and whether–if they are worth cultivating–they are likely to accept a future invitation to appear. It’s of benefit to you that they turn up at the right place at the right time. Do not invite interviewees to appear unless you genuinely intend to use them. It is discourteous in the extreme.

Inevitably, there will be occasions when editorial considerations mean ‘dropping’ at the last moment a guest who has taken considerable trouble to join you. Apologise profusely.
