There are other problems connected with wearing the right clothes for the right occasion, because the television studio imposes some disciplines of its own. The sensitive mechanism inside electronic colour cameras can be disturbed by fine stripes or check patterns, triggering a visual vibration known as ‘strobing’. Pointing the camera at some colours–notably some shades of blue–creates an electronic hole through which the studio background appears. An occasional check with programme technical or production staff will help to avoid any of these embarrassments.
