You have a presenter on live location. Your studio presenter needs to be able to talk to them as part of your programme. You can’t just turn the television on at the location to let them hear what’s happening – you would get an echo at best, or complete ‘howl-round’ if the volume was too loud. So you give them an earpiece plugged into a TV instead, listening to their own live programme. However, when they start speaking they hear themselves coming back ‘off air’ into their ear, but with a slight delay. It takes only a couple of seconds before they come to a grinding halt. Not good.
