Automated control rooms

Having seen how the roles of many operators can be partially run by computers, studios are beginning to appear that are built around their newsroom and automation systems. They use just two operators during the busy parts of the day, reducing to one in the quiet spells.

Technical directors

In control rooms with just one or two people there clearly is no place for a director who has no actual operational role. These new studios use one technical director and a sound supervisor, or two technical directors who swap roles after a few hours.
