The running order

Just like a paper running order, this shows the order in which we expect the stories to appear ‘on air’. There may be legitimate reasons why the order needs to change – OBs might not be ready, VTs could be stuck in edit suites, live guests may not have turned up. These are typical problems news teams face each day.

Most news programmes are live, so if something goes wrong you can’t stop and talk about it – quick decisions need to be made, and those decisions passed on to everyone concerned.

It Is vital directors are aware of alterations in running orders, and pass the changes down talkback. Not everyone will have a display in front of them, and those who do may not have noticed a change.
