Two plus two

This is a common format for early morning and daytime programmes, and is usually based around an inverted ‘L’ shaped set. While it is possible to shoot with three cameras, to have total flexibility you really need four.

Camera shots

In the diagram shown, cameras 3 and 4 concentrate on the presenters. If you need both on shot at the same time then camera 4 shoots presenter 2 and camera 3 gets presenter 1. This gives reasonable eyelines to both presenters.

If you know for certain which presenter will be speaking next then shoot them on camera 4, which will always get the better eyeline. Camera 3 can then crab slightly to the left to offer a wide shot as a ‘get out clause’ if the other presenter speaks.
