Semi Profile Shot

This is done either with the MCU or MS. The important points are to give enough ‘looking room’, i.e. that space on the side of the screen that the performer is looking towards, and to make sure that we can see both the eyes of the subject.

Profile Shot

This is more commonly known as ‘a mistake’. Very occasionally it is a desirable effect, but few performers will thank you. The audience gets a perfect view of every bump and dent on the nose, combined with a great shot of the ear. We rarely see this view of people in real life as we tend to look straight on towards someone when having a conversation. If you do use this shot, you will need plenty of looking room.
