Network directors

The main aim of a network director (or transmission controller) is to run a smooth, clean transmission, with programmes starting on time, promotions running at appropriate points and all commercial requirements fulfilled.

Timing of a network

Most networks have fixed points – usually for the main evening news programmes – which often start at precisely the top of the hour. To achieve this level of accuracy takes a great deal of work and skill, and the presentation department is dependent on information from programme makers to be precise, ft is inexcusable for quoted programme durations to be inaccurate – it will invariably result in the network looking messy and amateurish.
