Even if you have a basic understanding of statistics, it can be difficult to know what statistical calculations to use in a given situation. Use this job aid below to remind yourself of what calculation to use; the final column shows you how each is performed.

NEED CALCULATIONS TO USE HOW TO DO IT
You want to describe your data set's central tendency. Mean Add up the values, then divide by the number of items in the data set (n)
  Median Put the values in rank order and find the middle. If there is an even number of values, take the average of the two points that share the middle position.
