Widescreen
The last few years have seen a move to replace the 4:3 aspect ratio TV picture with a 16:9 ratio. Originally the change accompanied the proposed introduction of a high-definition television system but the difficulties in agreeing a world-wide standard, and the economics of running a parallel service to the existing national TV systems, has resulted in a shift to the promotion of ‘widescreen’ TV.
Transition
