Restrictions on using alternate domain names include:

You should have the permission to create a CNAME or alias record with your DNS provider.
The alternative name should be unique with all the CloudFront distributions.
As a DNS protocol limitation, you cannot create a CNAME record for the top node of a DNS namespace (for example: abc.com) known as the zone apex, but you can create CNAME records for www.abc.com, new.abc.com, and so on.
If you're using Amazon Route 53 as your DNS service, you can create an alias resource record set instead of a CNAME. With an alias resource record set, you don't pay for Amazon Route 53 queries.
