Restrictions on using alternate domain names include:
- You should have the permission to create a CNAME or alias record with your DNS provider.
- The alternative name should be unique with all the CloudFront distributions.
- As a DNS protocol limitation, you cannot create a CNAME record for the top node of a DNS namespace (for example: abc.com) known as the zone apex, but you can create CNAME records for www.abc.com, new.abc.com, and so on.
- If you're using Amazon Route 53 as your DNS service, you can create an alias resource record set instead of a CNAME. With an alias resource record set, you don't pay for Amazon Route 53 queries.
