70. Periodic Appraisals Are the Most Specific Feedback

If you have not been giving—or getting—periodic appraisals, start now. Appraisals tell specifically how well someone has performed over a designated period of time. Such appraisals should occur at least yearly. People want to know how they are performing and how they are contributing to the overall success of the team and company.

Performance Prompts

  • At the beginning of the appraisal period (January, for example), schedule a meeting with coworkers to communicate goals for that period.

  • This is a good time to create yearly plans and update goal sheets.

  • Include results in all areas in the appraisal process.
