Chapter 9 Analysis and Optimization of Plant Availability Performance

Introduction

Availability engineering in the basic design phase has so far accomplished the following in the design of a performance scheme:

  • Assessed reliability and maintainability of plant items, components, and assemblies.
  • Allocated reliability, maintainability, and economic parameters to plant logic diagrams.
  • Determined the cause, effect, and criticality of identified failures in the plant.
  • Identified the most cost-effective maintenance strategy for each significant failure.

However, these are still preliminary conclusions. They have not been tested, evaluated, and optimized as a system of availability performance. That is now the objective.
