Manage Logging

We first examined logging in SharePoint 2010 in Chapter 12 when we introduced Usage and Health Services. While there is some configuration that happens through the Service Application components, there is much more to monitoring in SharePoint 2010. We will focus on configuring logging using the cmdlets available to you. These cmdlets allow you to perform the following actions:

  • Review and modify diagnostic settings
  • Review, modify, and reset log levels
  • Create and merge log files
  • Review and write log events
