Configure Intra-Farm Communications

Intra-Farm Communications are made up of the traffic that occurs inside the SharePoint Farm. This includes traffic between SharePoint and SQL Server. SharePoint 2010 has expanded the types of servers that you can have in your environment. Gone are the days of a single search indexer. Now, we have a very robust architecture that allows for redundancy at the majority of the search layer and many other services. It is important to understand how this communication happens, where it happens, and how to configure it. We will start our look into Intra-Farm Communications at its core: the network.
