Building G-Buffers

In this lesson, create a Z-Depth channel to apply an animated30 Fog to ordinary video footage using the G-Buffer Builder.

Overview

The G-Buffer Builder enables you to create additional channels of information to your footage to take advantage of 3D post operators. These channels can be rendered out from 3ds Max files, but for images created outside of 3ds Max (video and film footage) information such as Z-Depth must created with the G-Buffer Builder.

In this lesson:

  • Finish a grayscale Paint project to be used as a Z-Depth channel.

  • Apply a G-Buffer Builder to use the Paint Operator for z-Depth.
