Searching for Content Across Multiple Drawings

The Content Explorer is new in AutoCAD 2012; it allows you to search for—and insert—content from within other drawings. Using the Content Explorer to locate and insert blocks is much more efficient than writing blocks to files and then inserting the resulting files into drawings, as you learned in the previous section.

The reasons for the increased efficiency of the Content Explorer are twofold:

  • You can access all the blocks within every file in your search path.
  • Harnessing the power of a search engine gets you to what you are looking for much faster than a manual search.
