CHAPTER 6

Controlling Object Visibility and Appearance

Layers control objects whether they are visible or hidden. All objects have properties that control their appearance—properties such as color, linetype, lineweight, and so on. The layers that objects are assigned to usually control general object properties, but these properties can be set on a per-object basis as well. In this chapter we will discuss the many tools associated with layers that illustrate how important layers are in managing the complexity of design.

  • Changing object properties
  • Setting the current layer
  • Altering objects' layer assignments
  • Controlling layer visibility
  • Applying linetype
  • Assigning properties by object or by layer
  • Managing layer properties
