Chapter 10. Configuring Voice Gateways

CUCM deployments need a connection to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to be able to place and receive external calls. PSTN connections are provided by gateways that interconnect traditional digital or analog telephony interfaces. Gateways are analogous to trunk cards in traditional PBXs, whereas CUCM trunks indicate call routing over an IP network. Gateways can use various protocols for signaling between CUCM. Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) is the signaling protocol that is investigated in this chapter.

The purpose of this lesson is to describe the role and implementation of MGCP gateways to provide PSTN access to a CUCM environment.
