Chapter 10. Authoring

While modeling deals with geometry and appearance, authoring is concerned with defining the semantics and the behavior of the application. Today, this activity still mostly takes place at the source code level. The reliance on programming as the sole AR authoring methodology limits developer productivity and prevents nonprogrammers, such as writers, designers, and artists, from taking an active role in the development of AR applications. This may affect the pace at which AR becomes a mainstream medium. In this chapter, we investigate strategies to improve this situation.
