3.8 BNC Male Connectors

The BNC connector is commonly used for video and RF work. It’s an unbalanced connector, with only hot (tip) and ground (shield). Unlike its poor cousin, the F connector (covered in Section 3.9), the BNC uses a spiffy gold-plated pin for the tip contact. And rather than screwing down on the female with a lock-ring you have to spin and spin, the BNC has a twist-locking lock-ring that only takes a quarter turn to lock firmly.

These features make the BNC a better connector than the F connector if you have a choice of which type to install. It’s a little more costly, but has much better longevity. It’s also a little more complicated to assemble than an F connector, but not a whole lot.
