The subjects of room acoustics and monitoring are complex enough to write an entire book about. While we don’t have scope to cover them in full detail, a basic understanding of these subjects is of significant importance to anyone wishing to make music production their profession. Acting on the advice here will allow you to judge every decision you make more accurately and with more certainty than you have ever been able to before.

Here are a few questions and decisions you have to make in a recording session:

  • Where shall I place the microphones on a guitar cab?
  • Which mics and pre-amps should I use?
  • What EQ should I use on a kick drum?
  • How much reverb should I add to the lead vocal?
