The Transmission and Reproduction of Audio Post Production Material

Once audio post production has been completed, the mixed soundtrack is ready to be distributed. The programme material could be transmitted or reproduced on any format of any quality, and may or may not be in a multichannel form.

Low-quality formats include:

  • Video cassette recorders (not hi-fi).
  • Websites.
  • Computer video games (at 8-bit quantization).

High-quality formats include:

  • Video cassettes with hi-fi sound systems.
  • Television transmission using digital sound.
  • Digital film soundtracks.
  • Digital versatile discs.

Between these two quality extremes are:

  • Thirty-five-millimetre optical soundtracks with noise reduction.
