Film in Audio Post Production |
Film is now only used as an acquisition medium for studio and location shooting, and as a projection medium for theatrically released films. Between these two points – acquisition and transmission – film travels a digital path, passing through a string of computer-based systems.
Film is used on high-budget productions, where the considerable cost of the film stock and the associated processing is acceptable. Film can give higher contrast and better definition than comparable high definition video systems. But video systems are continually improving and, to counter this, so is film technology – offering film stock of high speed with very little grain.
