Audio Team Misconceptions

Composer/sound designer: This is the most commonly mislabeled audio staff title. Too many companies have an in-house staff member who performs the functions of a composer as well as those of a sound designer. In some cases this works well. Sound and music are scheduled separately and completed separately by one person competent enough to do both tasks or at least contribute to their completion. In most cases, however, this person is expected to do essentially everything except voice. Music and sound are becoming tasks too large for one person to take on alone; in the next few years this combined position will become obsolete.
